Give a helping hand for Joanna Cook

Early hours Thursday 22nd October Jo had a nasty fall at home which resulted in a serious head injury which caused her to have a brain haemorrhage. She had to undergo surgery straight away in Brighton Hospital to stop the bleed. She was later admitted to Kings College Hospital Critical Care Unit.

One side of Jo's face is badly fractured due to the impact of the accident. She sustained a multitude of injuries including multiple major skull fractures, broken ribs, flesh wounds, and there is ongoing concerns with her sight. At the moment the left side of her body is not being responsive. Her injuries are severe and debilitating, she is lucky to be alive but thanks to the medical teams and staff she is still with us now. Jo is no longer under sedation but is still unconscious and has experienced marginal improvements to date, being this the case we are hoping for a positive recovery. We don't know to the extent of how devastating her injuries and damage may be to her brain until she wakes up.

Those of you who know Jo know how kind, lovely, bubbly she is. She brightens up everyones day with her happy go lucky personality. She is compassionate and always willing to help anyone without hesitation. For those who don't know her I hope you get to meet her, everyone needs a ray of sunshine like her in their lives.

To anyone that has seen me in the last two weeks this is the reason I haven't  been on this planet. This accident has impacted my usual day to day life as not only is Jo my uncles partner she is also my work colleague (well my boss - although she hates it when I say that) that I spend every working day with. She's also my dance partner, my cheerleader/encourager and my best friend. I love her so much and I've been missing her everyday that's she's not been around. And for everyone that knows her I'm sure they will feel the same way as I do. Jo was looking forward to her 40th Birthday on the 22nd of November, she was hoping to be sipping piña coladas on holiday somewhere and spending time with friends but due to everything she will have to celebrate a belated 40th next year.

Although Jo’s (and my) place of work “Chickidee” are doing everything they can to keep Jo on the furlough scheme, it is undetermined how long she will be in hospital and has a long recovery ahead of her.

My goal is to alleviate the financial stress to some degree so when she wakes up that she can solely focus on healing. Walking around freely at home is something we all do everyday and it is scary to think this could happen to any of us. She is a strong 'Cookie' and a determined woman and she will get through this. Help us give her the love and support she deserves. Setting a goal did seem difficult and almost did not seem appropriate with what is going on in the world at the moment but we would be absolutely humbled by any donations,  random acts of kindness and supporting messages for Jo as she recovers.
